Manchester United's desire to lure Leighton Baines and Marouane Fellaini has come to an end.
According to Everton Manager Roberto Martinez, the two clubs have stopped conversing about a potential transfer.
"No. There's been no other news. There's going to be lots of talk about the transfer window, but that's not what we're going to be focusing on now," said Martinez, according to ESPN.
United previously made a 28 million pound offer for both, but was promptly rejected. Manager David Moyes then told reporters that he expected Martinez to do the right thing and let the players go.
"I definitely [have sympathy for Everton manager Roberto Martinez]. But I also know if I had been Everton manager and Sir Alex [Ferguson] had come asking for Baines and Fellaini I'd have found it very difficult to keep them," said Moyes, according to ESPN. "I always thought the right thing to do was the right thing for players. Roberto is new in his job and I'm sure he'll get to understand how Everton work," he added. "I respect Everton greatly and speak with Bill Kenwright most weeks. Of course taking their players is going to affect them but there is not any disrespect whatsoever because we didn't make the offer public."
Martinez would have none of it and responded harshly, questioning Moyes' professionalism.
"If managers start talking about players who are registered at other clubs, that is the end of the whole thing. I think everyone should look after their own things internally," said Martinez, according to ESPN. "I am sure they have got many issues in the same manner, and I could easily come out and give my opinions about these players -- but I will be more respectful than that.
"I could sit down and give you half an hour with my vision of how the other club is being run, the players they want to go and how they should be sending messages to all the clubs around the world that they have been trying to sign players and haven't been able to do it," he added.
