Christine Quinn, the onetime front runner in the New York City Mayoral election race, has scored mayor endorsements from NYC's big three newspapers: the New York Times, the New York Post and the New York Daily News.
The NYC Council Speaker touts the mayor endorsements in a new campaign ad entitled "It's Unanimous."
"For mayor, the New York Times, Daily News and the Post all endorse Christine Quinn as the Democratic who can get things done," says an announcer in the 30-second commercial.
The NYT released their candidate pick for mayor on Saturday in an article that states that Quinn, "offers the judgment and record of achievement anyone should want in a mayor."
The Times added: "She has shepherded through important laws protecting New Yorkers' health, safety and civil rights, including measures banning public smoking, protecting tenants and small businesses, and battling slumlords. She sponsored the sweeping 2007 legislation that made the city's exemplary campaign-finance laws even stronger."
The Times also gave credit to two other Democratic candidates, Bill de Blasio, the public advocate, and former comptroller William Thompson Jr.
Aside from the short period when Anthony Weiner jumped ahead of her in the primary polls, Quinn had been the longtime frontrunner on surveys on the race until a recent surge by Public Advocate Bill de Blasio. Recent Quinnipiac University polls show that de Blasio's support has doubled in less than a month, pushing him from fourth to slightly ahead of the rest of the pack. A second poll released last week showed him in a dead heat with City Council speaker Christine Quinn, with former comptroller Bill Thompson not far behind, reports the Boston Globe. Weiner, who was once the party's favorite, now comes in fourth in light of recent news surrounding his sexting scandal.
