By now it’s no secret. Everyone knows Justin Timberlake is the King of Pop. Hit shattering performance at last Sunday’s VMAs served as the final nail in the coffin. Looking back over the past two decades, the singer has pumped out hit after hit, validating his reign at the top. Even after a brief hiatus from music, he returned with yet another smash album, The 20/20 Experience, and reminded fans of what he does best and better than anyone else. He’s set the bar. He’s got nowhere else to go but down, and he keeps reaching higher.

Now as anticipation builds for the second installment of his new album, The 20/20 Experience Part 2 of 2, Timberlake posts a note to his fans on his website, along with a short video documenting the making of the record.

“The last time I wrote you an open letter, it was in January and I promised that it would be a ‘Big 2013.’ Since then, from The Grammys to the release of the first part of The 20/20 Experience to the crowd’s response at the VMAS, it’s been a wild ride,” he writes. “I hope you’ve enjoyed it as much as I have. This letter is to tell you that we’re not done… Not even close.”

The clip features behind-the-scene footage in the studio with producer Timbaland as they talk about how making The 20/20 Experience differed from anything they’ve down before, saying, “We usually take our time, and I felt like it would drive the creativity in a different way to feel like we had to sprint every day, and it would hyperfocus us.”

Timberlake goes on to talk about his brief hiatus from music, claiming that he didn’t want to force his creativity. It wasn’t until his absence from the game kept him up at night and distracted all day that he realized it was time to return, for he believes that “desperation” brings out “passion.” Check out it out for yourself below.

Fans look forward to Part 2 of The 20/20 Experience, which hits stores September 30, and there’s no end in sight.

“Catch your breath, TN kids. We’ve still got the 3rd and 4th quarter to go. This is too much fun.”
