"The Newsroom," Aaron Sorkin's latest cerebral hit, is nearing the end of its second season. The HBO series about moralistic newsman Will McAvoy (Jeff Daniels) and his dedicated staff only has thee more drama-filled episodes left.

Hypable reports that HBO recently released synopses for the last three episodes. The descriptions show that the Operation Genoa story arc will be coming to a head, election night will once again touch on journalistic ethics and an impending decision could affect the future of the News Night staff.

Episode seven of "The Newsroom" is titled "Red Team III." The episode focuses on Operation Genoa, and how Rebecca (Marcia Gay Harden) pieces together events that led to the decision to air the report on Operation Genoa, despite later revelations that it may not have been true. The fallout from the revelations threatens the future of News Night and overshadows breaking news (the attack in Benghazi) on the anniversary of September 11.

Episode eight is the first half of a two-part election night episode, capturing the hectic frenzy of election night 2012. The rest of the synopsis reads: "Sloan (Olivia Munn) is perturbed that her book was auctioned off with a forged signature, while Mac (Emily Mortimer) tasks Neal (Dev Patel) to fix a faulty Wikipedia page. Mindful that Charlie (Sam Waterston) wants a screw-up-free evening, Jim (John Gallagher, Jr.) weighs the cons of retracting a call he made too soon. The team deliberates whether to hold off on a story that might affect a tight Senate race."

The tenth and final episode of the second season is the second half of the election night episode. As the characters put the election night coverage to rest, Will and Charlie wait for a decision from Reese (Chris Messina) that could impact the future of the entire ACN staff. Meanwhile, Sloan learns the identity of the mysterious winner of the bid for her book, and Don (Thomas Sadoski) contemplates a countersuit against Rebecca and Jerry (Hamish Linklater).

As for the other characters, the synopsis reads: "Neal turns to Hallie (Grace Gummer) for help giving Mac a parting gift; Jim tries to make peace with Lisa (Kelen Coleman), encouraging Maggie (Alison Pill) to do the same; Will has a revelation while Charlie is sharing his."
