The Samsung Galaxy S4 mini is coming to Australia in a big way. Right after carrier Optus announced the Galaxy S4 Mini, the biggest cell phone provider in the country announced that they would be giving a release date to the Samsung Galaxy S4 mini as well.
Telstra announced on Tuesday that the Galaxy S4 mini would be added to the company's Samsung device lineup, though an exact release date or price has not been revealed yet. However, Telstra promised that it's "still confirming pricing and availability details and these will be available here soon."
A release date for the Galaxy S4 mini also can't be too far away, as the announcement also mentioned Telstra's expanding 4G coverage, which will switch on in another 200 locations by Christmas. The move expands Telstra's high-speed wireless coverage to more than 85 percent of Australia's population.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 mini is the slightly smaller and pared down version of the Samsung Galaxy S4. It has a 4.3-inch screen with 540 x 960p qHD resolution, and only weighs 130 grams. The device comes with a dual core 1.7GHz Snapdragon 400 processor, assisted by 1.5GB of RAM. On the back is an 8-megapixel camera, which is not bad for a mid-tier phone, and, of course, it has the front camera for selfies and video chatting.
The device will have 4G LTE connectivity, along with HSPA+, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, and NFC. The Galaxy S4 mini comes with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean right out of the box, and has Samsung's custom UI and software, which includes features Smart Stay, Smart Pause, S Voice, S Travel and others. The device is powered by a 1,900 mAh battery, and has 8GB or 16GB of internal storage, though that can be expanded by the microSD card slot.
