Just in time for Dave Chappelle's long-awaited return to comedy, Prince tweeted a photo of the comedian doing his famous impersonation of the singing icon.
On Friday, the Grammy-winning star tweeted a picture of Chappelle as himself carrying a plate of pancakes for his new single "Breakfast Can Wait," along with links to his websites and a preview of the song.
The image comes from Chappelle's infamous Comedy Central show, "The Chappelle Show," from a sketch that featured him appeared in a curly wig, purple ruffled blouse and black eyeliner in order to depict Prince. The 2004 skit, "Charlie Murphy's True Hollywood Stories - Prince," is celebrated as one of Chappelle's most popular and memorable skits from the show.
Apparently, the "Purple Rain" icon himself also found the skit hilarious and probably wouldn't object if the funny man returned to television to deliver more of his ingenious comedy spoofs.
But for now, Chappelle fans can buy tickets to see the 39-year-old actor on the "Funny Or Die Presents The Oddball Comedy & Curiosity Tour," a five-weekend tour that he is co-headlining starting later this month. These are some of Chappelle's first gigs since abruptly walking away from his popular show in 2005.
Earlier this year, Chappelle also performed with Kevin Hart and Chris Rock at The Comedy Cellar in New York. The show sparked rumors that Rock and Chappelle would go on tour together, however, prospects for the comic titans to join forces have yet to materialize.
The Oddball festival kicks off in Austin, Texas on Aug. 23 and will wrap up in Phoenix, Ariz. Here's a list of the tour dates:
