Former friends Lady Gaga and celebrity blogger Perez Hilton are having it out on Twitter in a very public feud. It is uncertain exactly  why the bitter Twitter battle began, but Hilton has been ripping apart his former confidant with Tweets gloating about the poor chart performance of Gaga's latest single, "Applause," from her upcoming album 'ARTPOP," which is trailing far behind Katy Perry's latest single, "Roar."

Gaga responded to the acrimonious tweets by responding via Twitter that Hilton sent her a picture of a wheelchair with the word "karma" written on it on the day Gaga suffered a hip injury that led to her subsequent surgery and a cancelation of tour dates. Gaga then put out a tweet, which has since been deleted, that Hilton is stalking her, and claimed that he was trying to move into her New York City apartment building.

Hilton responded by telling the The Hollywood Reporter that he is "a critic and not a stalker." Hilton says that he has been receiving alarming death threats from avid Gaga fans.

"My heart hurts that my former very good friend Lady GaGa, a person I used to call my 'wifey' and traveled the world with, is making very public and very untrue allegations about me on Twitter," he wrote.

"Any allegation that I am stalking her is utterly false, defamatory and now appear to be putting me in danger," Hilton added. "I will continue to be a critic -- in a way that is not mean or involves name-calling, and I will continue to have an opinion and talk about music and songs, like GaGa's 'Applause.' As the suggestion that I pose a danger to GaGa is preposterous, if fans want to send a message of support to her, they should buy her music."

Gaga said that fans tweeted to her that Hilton was seen at her apartment building in New York. Hilton was reportedly hunting for an apartment, and was not aware that Gaga also resided in the building.

A source told the Reporter that Perez was "looking for a place that meets his family's needs." They added that Hilton had "no idea" Gaga lived there and that he was not escorted from the building, despite reports of the contrary.

Hilton tweeted retaliatory comments this morning, making insinuations about Gaga and her possible drug use.

"Drugs don't just ruin lives. They ruin friendships and careers too. Stay away!!!! I know some people are sick, and addiction will make you act up, but people need to take accountability for their actions!!!!" Hilton wrote.

"I know it's hard to see our idols/friends/people we looked up to as less than awesome. But sometimes those people are so hurtful!" Hilton continued.
