On Aug. 16, "Jobs" opens nationwide.
The film, starring Ashton Kutcher, tells the story of Steve Jobs' ascension from college dropout to one of the most revered creative entrepreneurs of the 20th century.
The film closed the Sundance Film Festival and has scored mixed reviews. Variety's Justin Chang said the film "Avoids outright hagiography, but more or less embodies the sort of bland, go-with-the-flow creative thinking Jobs himself would have scorned."
Ed Gibbs from the Guardian gave the film two stars out of five and was similarly disappointed. "This is far from the bomb some would have envisaged, but neither is it the character illumination one would wish for."
Ty Cooper from HeyUGuys gave the film zero stars, saying one of the reasons he "hated" the movie was that director "Joshua Michael Stern seemed to find it necessary to spoon feed his audience to the point of being completely patronizing."
However, some critics found value in the film. Justin Lowe of the Hollywood Reporter enjoyed "Jobs," calling it "a biopic that's perhaps too respectful of the tech icon's innovations, [but] still remains frequently engaging."
David D'Arcy from Screen International stated, "Bio-pics always tailor memories. Yet the welcome surprise here is Kutcher, as the barefoot rebel who brought the spirit of psychedelia to technology."
Roger More from the McClatchy-Tribune News Service gave the movie two and a half stars and wrote: "Not all you'd hope it might be, but better than all the Ashton bashers would have you believe"
The movie was directed by Joshua Michael Stern and also stars Josh Gad, J.K Simmons, Lukas Haas, Ahna O'Reilly, and Matthew Modine. Open Road Films will release the movie in 2,000 theaters. "Jobs" is rated PG-13 for some drug content and brief strong language.
