Spain will take on Ecuador in an international friendly on Wednesday.

The Spaniards enter the match as the top team in the world, but still have something to prove. The club will be without midfielder Cesc Fabregas who was injured during the preseason with club Barcelona.

According to Barcelona's website: "Cesc Fabregas had a number of tests this morning after arriving back from Malaysia to measure the extent of the ankle injury he picked up in Saturday's match...It has subsequently been confirmed that the player has sprained a ligament in his right ankle.

"Club doctors have contacted the Spanish FA to recommend that the player should not join the national squad for the friendly against Ecuador so that he can undergo treatment in Barcelona.''

Spain's Last Five Games

La Roja is coming off a grueling Confederations Cup campaign that started with elation and ended with frustration. Spain destroyed Uruguay 2-1 in a game that was more one-sided than the score suggests. In the follow-up the team took down Tahiti 10-0 before surviving against Nigeria in a 3-0 victory. In the knockout rounds, Italy gave Spain trouble but the World Champions managed a win in the shootout. However, their luck ran out in a 3-0 humiliation at the hands of Brazil.

Ecuador's Last Five Games

Ecuador has won two of its last five games but has not won any of its last three. The team lost 4-2 against Germany, 1-0 against Peru, and drew 1-1 with Argentina in recent games.

Previous meetings

The two sides have only met once. Spain defeated Ecuador 4-0 back on April 30, 2003.

Prediction: Spain will be on a mission to prove that it is still the best team in the world. Look for an impressive performance from La Roja. Spain wins 3-1.
