Japan and Uruguay face off in an international friendly on Wednesday.

Japan enters the match as the 37th ranked team in the world according to FIFA and has already booked a spot in the 2014 World Cup. Meanwhile, Uruguay ranks 12th, but is in peril of missing the big tournament. This match means more to Uruguay in terms of preparation and mind set.

Japan's Last Five Games

On July 28, Japan defeated Korea Republic 2-1. Three days earlier, the team took down Australia 3-2 and also drew 3-3 with China on July 21. Prior to that, the team participated in the 2013 Confederations Cup as a member of Group A. In its opening match, Japan was demolished 3-0 by eventual champion Brazil. In the second game, the Samurais took Italy to the limit but wound up losing 4-3 in the highest scoring game of the tournament. In their final group game, Japan lost 2-1 against a punchless Mexican side.

Uruguay's Last Five Games

Uruguay's last five contests all took place in the Confederations Cup. The South Americans lost 2-1 against Spain in the opener before taking down Nigeria 2-1 in the second game. In the third match, Uruguay pounded amateur side Tahiti 8-0. In the first knockout round, the team lost 2-1 against Brazil and lost in penalties against Italy in the third place game.

The clubs have met four times in their respective histories with Uruguay owning a record of 2-1-1.
