Costa Rica will take on Dominican Republic in an international friendly on Wednesday.

The Costa Rican side is second in World Cup qualifying and is coming off a rather successful CONCACAF Gold Cup run. The team won its first two group stage games before falling 1-0 against eventual champion USA. In the knockout rounds, the team fell to Honduras 1-0 and was eliminated from the competition.

"It's very pleasing," said Costa Rica Coach Jorge Luis Pinto of his team's 2013 thus far. "There's no doubt about it. We're delighted that we've fulfilled the criteria of the people who do the ranking and that we've climbed our way up...I hope we get that chance to go to the World Cup. I'm convinced we're on the right track and we'll keep on battling."

Dominican Republic has only played one match in 2013, a 3-1 win over Haiti back in March. The team has not played a competitive match since November 2011.

Previous matches

Costa Rica and Dominican Republic have met only once before on Nov. 27, 1990 when Costa Rica took home a 4-1 victory. The teams have not met since.

Prediction: Costa Rica is the superior team by a long stretch and is the favorite in this game. Look for the Costa Ricans to pull off a solid 3-1 win.

The match's kick-off starts at 5:30 p.m. EST.

The game will be not be broadcast on TV in the USA. There will be no live stream for the match.
