Luis Suarez is not going anywhere in England asserts Liverpool teammate Steven Gerrard.

"It's very important he stays. Luis is one of the best players in the world and I can certainly see why other clubs are interested in him," Gerrard said, according to ESPN. "If I can use my influence to try to get him to stay then of course I will because I love playing with him.

"I don't want him to go and, for Liverpool to be successful and move forward, we have to keep our best players."

Regarding where his teammate might be headed, Gerrard offered, "At the moment I haven't got a clue [if he will stay] or not, but I am really confident he won't go to anywhere else in England."

The Luis Suarez transfer saga has become the central story of the transfer season. The player has recently claimed that his club promised to move him this season if a 40 million pound offer was presented and if Liverpool failed to make the Champions League.

The team has rebuked Suarez for allegedly lying about the promise and has even demanded an apology. The Uruguayan has refused, but manager Brendan Rodgers still believes reconciliation is possible.

"It is something that we have to do everything we can to fix," Rodgers said, according to ESPN. "If we have got to sit and wait, then so be it. But this is a club that has got great values, and we hope that the situation can be resolved amicably, and I am sure it will be.

"There has been a lot said and a lot reported, and we have made a stance, as a club and as a manager, of the commitment and the standards required. If you don't have that commitment and those standards, then you won't play. It's as simple as that," he added.
