An iPhone 5 exploded on a woman's face after she used the Apple device for over 30 minutes.

According to China's Da Lian Evening News, and translated via ZDNet, the Chinese woman was using her iPhone 5 at her workplace when she felt the smartphone's screen becoming warmer.

After using the device for almost 40 minutes, the woman, whose family name is Li, tapped on the touchscreen to end the phone call, but the display was unresponsive. Then, following a few more taps, the screen exploded.

Li was sent to a hospital where her eyeball was inflamed and red. Debris from the iPhone 5 hit her eye, which resulted in a scratched cornea.

Li told Da Lian Evening News that she purchased the iPhone 5 last September. She admitted the device previously fell, causing a dent on the top-right corner of the smartphone. The iPhone 5, however, was still useable despite the damage.

It was noted that the explosion originated from the top-right corner of the iPhone.

Despite the injuries, Li added that she does not seek any compensation from Apple.

According to the report, a staffer from Apple's after-sales service said such incidents will require further investigation and are not usually covered under the product's warranty.

The iPhone 5 was introduced worldwide on Sept. 12 last year and went on sale later that month.

The iPhone 5 features a screen size of 4 inches with 1,136x640 pixels at 326 pixels per inch. The internal storage models come with 1GB of RAM but no microSD card slot. The wireless connectivity for the latest Apple smartphone includes Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth version 4.0, and USB version 2.0. The camera specifications include an 8 megapixel rear-facing camera with 3,264x2,448 pixels and a front-facing camera with 1.2 megapixels. The smartphone, which launched in September 2012, has 1,440mAh to provide up to 225 hours on standby and eight for talk time when under a 3G network.
