Amazon.com has lowered the price of the seven-inch Kindle Fire HD tablet.

The Amazon tablet, with the seven-inch HD display, had its price reduced to $159 for the 16GB Kindle Fire HD, down $40 from the original list price of $199.

The $40 in savings is also valid for the 32GB Kindle Fire HD tablet. The 32GB tablet will cost the consumer $189 instead of the original $229 price.

The $40 savings is part of Amazon's "With Special Offers" deal, otherwise, the tablets' cost will increase by $15. The "Without Special Offers" will increase the 16GB tablet price to $174 and $204 for the 32GB model.

Regardless of the internal storage model, Amazon is offering to ship the tablets for free as part of the "Free Super Savor Shipping." The shipping offer is valid for products that cost $25 and must have the "eligible for FREE Super Saver Shipping" tagline next to the item's price.

Amazon had previously lowered the cost of the Kindle Fire HD tablet in early July by $30.

The Kindle Fire HD, with its seven-inch display, has 1,280x800 pixel resolution with in-plane switching. The Amazon tablet's battery life provides up to 11 hours of Wi-Fi and music playback. In terms of wireless connectivity, the Kindle Fire HD is 802.11 a/b/g/n and Wi-Fi hotspot enabled.
