Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic wants Wayne Rooney to remain with the club.

The captain is the latest Manchester United property to voice his opposition to the striker's desire to leave the team.

"I believe Man United is the biggest club in the world and I think there's no point to go anywhere," Vidic said according to ESPN. "There's so much speculation, so much talk about whether he'll leave or stay. He's at the best club in the world."

Vidic noted that he was also the subject of transfer speculation a few years ago, but opted to remain with the team.

"I have to say the last four years I was in that position as well. People were talking about me leaving the club," he noted. "I'm still here and I'm enjoying playing for this club. Nothing has changed."

Aside from Vidic, striker Robin Van Persie has also asked his teammate to stay another year.

"Everyone wants Wayne to stay and deep down I think he feels the same," Van Persie said in an interview with The Sun. "One of the reasons I joined Manchester United was to play with Wayne.

"I hope he stays. Not only is he a great goal scorer, he does so much work across the pitch. He hates to lose - that's why you see him one minute pressing for goal, the next minute defending ferociously. He is an asset to any team. He will come good again. He is a strong lad," he added.

Rooney has been actively pursued by Chelsea this offseason and recent reports have indicated that the striker wishes to make his home at Stamford Bridge next season. However, his current club has repeatedly rejected offers from the Blues and has told the press that the player is not for sale.

The transfer period comes to a close on Aug. 31.
