Pop singer Katy Perry has finally released her first single of her much-anticipated third album, Prism. The song, “Roar,” was accidentally unleashed on the world on Saturday, days ahead of its planned release. Perry then released the song on radio to Clear-Channel owned stations and later announced its iTunes release through Twitter on Sunday night.

Perry promoted the new single with several teasers last week, where she was seen putting her bubbly “California Gurls” persona to rest. The teaser, called “The Third Coming,” featured a priest reading a prayer and crying girls in electric blue wigs as Perry’s candy character is lowered to her grave.

However, fans that may have been worried that their pop princess was done for need not worry. The singer’s latest single “Roar” featured catchy tunes and poppy lyrics. “I got the eye of the tiger, the fire/Dancing through the fire, ‘cause I am a champion/And you’re gonna hear me roar,” Perry sings.

Following her single’s radio debut, Perry also debuted an emoticon-filled lyric video for the song on Monday. The song’s lyric video has amassed over 34,000 views on YouTube, with many fans saying they like the singer’s new music.

Since being released, the song has also soared to ninth place on the iTunes Top 100 songs chart. According to Billboard, the song appeared on Nielson’s BDS-based Pop Songs airplay chart at No. 34 this week.

Billboard also reported that Perry will make her debut performance of “Roar” at the MTV Video Music Awards on August 25. The performance will be her third at the award event. She performed “I Kissed a Girl” in 2008 and “We Will Rock You” with Joe Perry in 2009, Billboard reported. The “Teenage Dreams” singer also counts on four VMA wins.

Perry’s third album, Prism, is set for an October 22 release.
