Joe Manganiello is the most recent actor rumored to play Batman in Zack Snyder's new film "Batman vs. Superman."

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Manganiello was one of the actors shortlisted to play the iconic role of Bruce Wayne, and insiders have revealed that Snyder wanted to work with the actor on "Man of Steel."

"Snyder liked him as a possible Superman for 'Man of Steel' before settling on Henry Cavill, but one major stumbling block was the schedule that Alan Ball had him on for filming 'True Blood', the HBO vampire series in which Manganiello plays a werewolf," wrote the Hollywood Reporter.

The Hollywood Reporter also stated that the studio was currently looking for an actor in his late 30s or 40s who can portray an established rugged figure. At 36 years old Managniello is the correct age for the part.

Manganiello was recently seen in "Magic Mike" and "What To Expect When Your'e Expecting." He has also worked on TV shows like "How I Met Your Mother," "Two and a Half Men," "White Collar," and "The Girl with the Stamp Tatoo." The actor will next be seen in "Sabotage" and "Knight of Cup." Manganiello is currently attached to "Tumbledown" with Rose Byrne and has no other projects lined up for 2014.

Manganiello's publicists have yet to comment on the rumors. However, Warner Bros. has stated that the script is not finished and will not start casting yet.

"Batman vs. Superman" is set to star Cavill, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, and Diane Lane. David Goyer will write the script with Snyder directing. Charles Roven and Deborah Snyder will produce and Christopher Nolan and Emma Thomas will serve as executive producers. Warner Bros. will release the movie in 2015.
