Leah Remini's public split from the Church of Scientology keeps getting more bizarre. The "King of Queens" star filed a missing person's police report on Wednesday for Michelle "Shelly" Miscavige, the wife of Scientology head David Miscavige.

According to the New York Daily News, Los Angeles police have ruled the missing persons's report "unfounded."

"Mrs. Miscavige is not missing. Investigators have made some type of contact with her," an LAPD source said. "The investigation is completed and classified as unfounded."

Shelly Miscavige has not been seen for several years, and is said to be living on a church property east of Los Angeles county. Her unknown whereabouts were put under scrutiny last summer after Katie Homes filed for divorce from Tom Cruise. Holmes cited Scientology as a one of the biggest reasons for the split, which increased public criticism of the controversial church.

In a statement, church officials called Remini's report "ludicrous" and an "inexcusable distraction" for law enforcement.

Remini recently exited the church over concerns about corruption, and due to the backlash she received when she asked why Shelly was not in attendance at Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' wedding in 2006.

Church officials also commented, "The entire episode was nothing more than a publicity stunt for Ms. Remini, cooked up with unemployed, anti-religious zealots who blog on the fringe of the Internet."

The 44-year-old sitcom star was a well known member of the church founded upon fantasy writer L. Ron Hubbard's teachings, along with fellow celebrities Tom Cruise, John Travolta and Kirstie Alley.

The Daily News reports that Remini has received public support for her decision to depart from the church. "I wish to share my sincere and heartfelt appreciation for the overwhelming positive response I have received from the media, my colleagues and from fans around the world. I am truly grateful and thankful for all your support," Remini said.
