'Star Wars Episode 7' News Update: Three Characters Who Should Never Return in New Trilogy

"Star Wars Episode VII" looks primed to bring fans back down memory lane with characters from past franchise installments making long-awaited returns. However, there are a number of characters that bring back bad memories and will likely drive fans to the theater exits. Here are three that we do not want to see in the new installment.

1. Jar Jar Binks: This is an obvious no-brainer. For most, Jar Jar destroyed "Episode I: The Phantom Menace" on his own with his racist depiction and childish jokes. Director George Lucas seemed to realize his mistake and slowly diminished the character's appearances in later installments. In "Episode II: Attack of the Clones" Lucas even gave fans a nod when he made Jar Jar's stupidity the reason for granting the Chancellor emergency powers; this in turn led to the demise of the Republic. "In Episode III: Revenge of the Sith" Jar Jar had one cameo and was banished from the franchise... until an inserted scene in the epilogue of "Episode VI: Return of the Jedi." Jar Jar is unlikely to return, but it never hurts to send out a reminder just how unwanted his presence is in the upcoming films.

2. Anakin Skywalker: Another seemingly obvious choice given his bad reputation in the prequels, but one that is more likely to appear than Jar Jar. Sebastian Shaw, the actor that played an elderly Anakin, has passed away and the only real alternative that would make sense is to reinsert Hayden Christensen as Anakin in the new movie. In Lucas' DVD version of "Return of the Jedi" Christensen's Anakin appears in ghost form during the final party celebration. This leaves the door open for that possibility, but it is one that no one wants. Christensen was destroyed by critics for his poor preformances as the character in the second and third movies and would be an unwelcome link to the oft-criticized prequels that many fans want to forget.

3. Ewoks: Finally a choice not directly linked with the prequels... at least not directly. Many feel that the childish Ewoks started Lucas' craze with catering exclusively to a child audience; this new interest led to the controversial tone of "Phantom Menace." Many also felt that these critters ruined "Jedi" and most fans would likely be unhappy to see them make a return to the franchise in "Episode VII."
