Adam Scott and Jim Furyk stand atop the leaderboard of the PGA Championship after an opening day that saw Tiger Woods stumble out the gates trailing the leaders by six shots.

Scott started off hot, making five straight birdies to start off the day, and adding six more after a 71-minute rain delay. Scott was on pace to tie the major championship record at Oak Hill Country Club until he made a three-putt bogey on the 16th. Adam finished the day with a long 15-foot par for a 5-under 65, that gave him a share with the lead with Furyk.

"Just got on a bit of a roll and hit a few shots close," said the 2013 Masters winner. "I didn't have too much putting to do. You've got to take advantage when it happens, because it doesn't happen too much in the majors. Nothing to complain about in 65."

Furyk, a former Professional Golfers Association (PGA) Player of the Year who has not won a tournament since the Tour Championship to take the FedEx Cup, kept pace with Scott, staying out of trouble until the end of the round when he missed the fairway to the right and had to make his way out of thick rough and trees blocking his way to the green.

"Usually disappointed with ending the day on a bogey," said Furyk. "But you know, 65, PGA, is not so bad."

Woods, who was coming off a dominant performance with a seven-stroke victory over the field at the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational, struggled early hitting only 9-of-18 greens in regulation. Woods' group, consisting of Davis Love III and Keegan Bradley, was informed they were put on the clock as they teed off in the 10th - due to slow play, further adding to the number 1 player in the world's tough day.

"We were put on the clock on the first hole [his 10th], so we had to get going and try to close the gap," said Woods. "It would have been nice to take a little bit longer on that putt. It was a pretty tricky little putt."

Woods believes he played well despite his place in the standings and thinks he can still put himself in position to win his 15th major of his career.

"I hit some good shots there, stuffed it at 2, tricky little putt. Probably should have taken a little bit longer, but we were on the clock and had to get going, so ended up blocking the putt anyways down the hill," said Woods. "I played really well today. The round realistically could have been under par easily."
