Liverpool forward Luis Suarez asserted that he never received a bid from Real Madrid.

"Sometimes there are more rumors than what is actually there in reality," he said. "Real Madrid never called me or Liverpool to negotiate. Any player always aspires to the maximum, and Real Madrid are there among the most important clubs in the world. It would be very difficult to say no to Madrid."

The Spanish side was in the rumor mill for weeks and supposedly had interest in Suarez. However, there was never confirmation and it is widely believed that the team would likely not purchase anymore players if it manages to get Gareth Bale for 100 million euros.

Suarez did note that he had one club interested in purchasing him.

"The option we have is from a club in the Champions League, who are making a strong bid for me, and you always want to be where you feel comfortable," Suarez said.

This unnamed club is Arsenal; the team has made three bids for the player but has been rejected by Liverpool each time.

Suarez has been public about his desire to leave the team. He told the press that he had been promised a move if the team did not make the Champions league in 2013-14.

"It is not that I want to leave, or that I am desperate to go, but I like to have things clear and a year ago we left things clear with the club," Suarez said. "We had an offer from a team in the Champions League; we looked at the situation with my agent and they told me that a new coach was coming, that the club would make a big bid to get into Europe and we renewed my contract with a new clause: if we did not reach the Champions League I could leave if an offer of £40 million arrived."

"There were no promises made, categorically none and no promises broken," Rodgers told reporters. "Obviously, the remarks I've read, it is bitterly disappointing, but my job is bigger than that. My job is to fight and protect the club."
