Elina Garanca is expecting her second child.

According to an email sent by her manager Ernesto Palacio, the Latvian soprano is pregnant and will be having a second child in December. Palacio also confirmed that Garanca would cancel "Der Rosenkavalier" at the Metropolitan Opera in November and "Carmen" at the Royal Opera House in December.

However, the manager failed to confirm whether the mezzo would cancel Massenet's "Werther" at the Met, simply writing "Maybe" in the email. Garanca's decision will most likely be made in the coming months depending on when the child is born. If the baby is born in late December, Garanca will most likely cancel because she would have to start rehearsals for "Werther" in early January; this would give her no time to take care of her new born. However, if the child is born early in December, then she may reconsider and continue with her schedule as planned.

When the announcement was made fans were immediately overjoyed for the Mezzo but a bit disappointed. The Mezzo is scheduled to sing in "Werther," which is one of the most anticipated new productions of the year and it would join her with star tenor Jonas Kaufmann for the first time at the Met.

Garanca's pregnancy marks her second. In 2011, she gave birth to her daughter Catherine Louise. During that time she canceled two highly anticipated opening nights. She was scheduled to open the Met's 2011-12 season with Anna Netrebko in "Anna Bolena" and the Teatro alla Scala 2011-12 season in "Don Giovanni" also with Netrebko, Bryn Terfel and Peter Mattei.
