Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger remains interested in acquiring Luis Suarez but will wait to see how the drama plays out.
"At the moment the situation is on standby," the manager stated of how he plans to proceed.
The Suarez transfer saga took a turn for the worst on Tuesday when the player told reporters that the club was not honoring its end of a gentleman's agreement to let him go.
"Last year I had the opportunity to move to a big European club and I stayed on the understanding that if we failed to qualify for the Champions League the following season I'd be allowed to go," Suarez said. "I gave absolutely everything last season but it was not enough to give us a top-four finish - now all I want is for Liverpool to honor our agreement.
"I have the club's word and we have the written contract and we are happy to take this to the Premier League for them to decide the case but I do not want it to come to that."
Regarding the situation, Wenger noted that he will let the two sides figure out the agreement as he plans to anticipate his chance to make the move.
"That is the story between Suarez and Liverpool and I don't know what has been said, what has been promised and what has been written, and only Suarez and Liverpool that can decide that. It's nothing to do with us. We have been told that the player wants to leave Liverpool and that's why we've acted," he said.
Arsenal has made three bids for the striker but has been rejected each time. A 30 million pound attempt was put down the same day and a 40 million pound offer was also shut out. When Liverpool stated that it wanted offers over 40 million pounds, Arsenal added one pound and was also rejected. These rejections prompted Suarez to demand the transfer out; he has also been met with opposition from his team. The transfer window closes on Aug. 31.
