'The Walking Dead' Season 4 Spoilers: Governor Could be More Dangerous, In a 'Very Dark Place'

Like the zombies that are portrayed in the show, details trudge down from the set of "The Walking Dead," slowly and persistently. Production on season 4 is now well underway as the series gears up for its October premiere. In classic "Walking Dead" fashion, season 3 left off with a heart stopping cliffhanger, so naturally, fans are eager and enthusiastic to catch up with their favorite characters and see how they'll adapt to the increasing threat of the ever hungry zombies and The Governor.

Fans watched as The Governor edged toward to brink of insanity throughout season 3. Now in the wake of the season 3 finale, there's no telling how far his character will go, or by what means he'll take to get there. To help fans understand his complexities and how they'll play out as the show moves forward, none other than David Morrissey, who plays the Governor, shed some light on his character's future.

"The Governor is out there on the road, and he's dealing with a lot of the darkness that's inside of him," Morrissey said during an interview with Wetpaint. "At the end of season 3, you saw this switch going off in his head, and it's about him trying to control that switch and find out what it is about himself. He learns a lot about himself in season 3, and in season 4, it's about which guy's going to win, the good guy or the bad guy? And it's inside him, an internal battle."

"It's about whether you can find anything else to love, or whether the lack of love, the lack of having nothing to live for makes him an even more dangerous man," he added. "When you start caring in this world, it's a very dangerous thing because you've got something to lose. And he's the man without anything to lose. That's a very dangerous thing. So it's about that really. It's about whether he can find that in this world, and whether he wants it. Whether he wants to die. He's in a very, very dark place."

"The Walking Dead," along with the Governor, will return to AMC October 13.
