SimCity has finally conquered the demons that came with the absolutely embarrassing launch the game had on PC, with the game proving to be very popular with players despite the storm of bad press the game had when it was first released. Now, after some delay Maxis and EA have announced that they will be bring the game to the Mac on August 29. Engadget has the press released from EA about the game, highlighting several features that come with the game, including the ability to have cross-platform play between Mac and PC users:

"SimCityTM will be available for Mac exclusively as a digital release on August 29, 2013. SimCity is cross-platform compatible, so all players, whether on Mac or PC, will be able to play SimCity together in the online connected world and will be able to jump back and forth into their cities regardless of the platform. Those players who have previously purchased digital and boxed copies of SimCity for PC will receive an automatic entitlement for SimCity for Mac via OriginTM."

Originally, SimCity was suppose to launch on Mac on June 11, but EA and Maxis decided that the game was not at the level that it needed to be for it to hit that release date. Considering the amount of problems the game has had, this was most likely a wise decision, as the game does not need anymore bad press than it has already gotten. In return for the delay, EA extended the SimCity Launch Park offer to make sure players who have already purchased the game on Mac feel less short-changed by the delay.

Features such as the cross-platform play promised with the coming of the Mac version of SimCity have prevented the game from getting an offline mode, at least for the time being, but the overall experience dealing with the epic server problems SimCity caused has steered EA away from trying to make The Sims 4 an online game.

It will be interesting to see how the Mac version of SimCity is different from the PC version of the game. Users who have a Mac and PC will be able to play both on the same EA Origin account, and those with the PC game will be able to download the Mac version for free. In any case it looks as though the game is on track to continue to grow and move away from the troubles that has plagued the game in the past. Look out for more SimCity news as the release date for the Mac version of the game gets closer.
