"Homeland" quickly shot up the ranks as one of Showtime's more popular series. It takes a unique approach to the inner workings of the Central Intelligence Agency and has established itself as one of television's best dramas, winning several Emmys and nominated for 11 more this year. The third season is still more than a month away, but that doesn't stop eager fans from digging for details on the show's future. There's plenty that can happen during the offseason, and now star Damian Lewis, who plays the agent Nicholas Brody, provides fans with an early look into what's in store for the upcoming season of "Homeland."
Throughout the first two season, Sgt. Brody compromised his true loyalty to the US military with conflicting ties to terrorist groups. With his secrets now unveiled, he finds himself in perilous conditions at the onset of season 3. It's unclear where exactly he is, but it's clear that he's in rough shape, and the only keeping him alive is the love of his children.
"There are points in the season where you will question whether Brody does want to live," Lewis said during an interview with Access Hollywood. "Uppermost in his mind is his family, always. But honestly, at this point, if he's caught, he's going to the chair."
"There is so much overwhelming evidence against him and there is such a great need for a scapegoat and for the CIA to make a recovery, and for the US president, that fictional president who is there at the White House at the time, to make a recovery [and] bring someone to justice," he added.
Lewis continued to discuss the inner workings behind the terrorist attack that devastated the CIA headquarters at the end of season two, hinting that season three will hold expose who was truly responsible and admitting that the CIA had a direct hand in the catastrophe.
Brody's fight to live will rely heavily on the exposed secrets of the CIA's missteps and fans will have to wait to see who will come out on top.
"Homeland" returns to Showtime September 29.
