The show kicked off with Daniel Bryan's "corporate makeover" with Bryan showing a willingness to listen to the McMahons. While Bryan came out in a new suit and freshly combed hair, Bryan drew the line at cutting off his precious beard, cutting Wade Barrett's beard instead (who was invited to ringside by Mr. McMahon). Bryan continued his defiance by tearing off his suit to reveal his new shirt.

Match #1: World Heavyweight Champion Alberto Del Rio vs. Rob Van Dam (non-title)

Ricardo Rodriguez made his return after an "injury" (in reality, Rodriguez is coming off a suspension for violating the WWE's wellness policy) but was off his game, having the tables turned on him after attempting to interfere in the match. Rodriguez set up a bucket against the turnbuckle, hoping to help Del Rio, only to have RVD use the bucket on the champion, rolling him up for the victory. Del Rio took out his frustration of defeat on Rodriguez, savagely beating him down after the match for his mistake.
WINNER: Rob Van Dam via pin

Match #2: Mark Henry vs. Ryback

Ryback, who has been bullying everyone in his path lately, wanted no part of "the world's strongest man", choosing to take a count-out defeat the minute Henry used his strength to put Ryback on the defensive.
WINNER: Mark Henry via count-out

John Cena addressed the WWE Universe regarding his SummerSlam match against Daniel Bryan before Randy Orton came out to the ring with his Money In The Bank suitcase, reminding him that he can take the champion's title at any time. The Shield ultimately came out to the ring, ready to pounce on Cena and Orton before Bryan came out the to even up the odds. This brought out Raw GM Brad Maddox, who declared Cena, Orton, and Bryan would take on The Shield in the main event.

Match #3: The Wyatt Family (Luke Harper & Erick Rowan) vs. Tons of Funk

The Wyatt Family dismantled Tons of Funk, with Bray Wyatt sermonizing over his fallen opponents after the match. Kane interruptted Wyatt with a message of his own, making a cryptic challenge to the newcomer for SummerSlam and setting off pyrotechnics in the ring, as Bray laughed maniacally.
WINNER: The Wyatt Family via pin-fall

Match #4: Layla vs. Kaitlyn

Kaitlyn was looking for payback, after Layla turned on her and aligned herself with WWE Diva's champion, AJ Lee, costing her former friend a chance to regain the title. AJ repaid Layla's favor, interfering in Kaitlyn's match as she was setting Layla up for a spear and eating Bombshell kick instead, for the lose.
WINNER: Layla via pin-fall

Match #5: Christian vs. Heath Slater

Christian defeated Slater in his tune-up match for his shot at Alberto Del Rios World Heavyweight title, planting the 3MB member into the mat with a spear.
WINNER: Christian via Pin-fall

Match #6: Intercontinental Champion Curtis Axel (w/ Paul Heyman) vs. CM Punk (non-title)

The match ended in a non-contest after Punk decided to go after Paul Heyman during the match. Brock Lesnar made his way to the ring to save his adviser, with Punk holding his own against the former UFC champion, using a chair at one point, despite eventually getting overpowered by Lesnar. Punk went back after Heyman, only to take an F5 from Lesnar, getting left laid out in the middle of the ring.
WINNER: No-contest

Backstage, Heyman challenged Punk to match for next's Monday Night Raw.

Match #7: Fandango vs. Kofi Kingston

Coming off injury, Kingston hit Fandango with a Trouble in Paradise kick to make a triumphant return back to full-time action.
WINNER: Kofi Kingston

Match #8: The Real Americans (Jack Swagger & Antonio Cesaro) vs. The Uso Brothers

Jey Uso was looking to pull off a Samoan Drop but got sent flying out of the ring by Antonio Cesaro. Cesaro then worked on Jimmy Uso (with help from Swagger & Zeb Colter), nailing him with The Neutralizer for the win.
WINNER: The Real Americans

Match #9: Dolph Ziggler vs. Big E. Langston (w/ AJ Lee)

Still steaming from AJ's distraction earlier in the night, Kaitlyn came down to ringside to settle her score with the WWE Divas champion. Ziggler, despite his issues with AJ, attempted to help her, only to eat a clothesline and The Big Ending for the pin-fall lose.
WINNER: Big E. Langston

Match #10: The Shield (US Champion Dean Ambrose & Tag-Team champions Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns) vs. WWE champion John Cena, Daniel Bryan, & Randy Orton

The Shield got themselves disqualified after Bryan locked Rollins up in a Yes Lock. Cena and Orton came into the ring to make the save but Orton had other ideas, RKOing both Cena and Bryan after the match. As Orton was contemplating cashing in his Money In The Bank suitcase, The Shield ran back into the ring, with Orton slithering out of the ring, leaving the champion and his SummerSlam challenger at the mercy of the wolves, to end the show.
WINNER: John Cena, Daniel Bryan, & Randy Orton via disqualification
