The Nexus 11 tablet has a rumored release date for sometime later this year, and that combined with the rumors that Android 5.0 is arriving later in 2013 as well has lead to a new crop of rumors about the latest edition of the famous operating system from Google.
Android 5.0, which will be nicknamed Key Lime Pie, has been rumored for a release sometime at the end of the year, and according to SamMobile Samsung is suppose to be working on four new tablets to be released by the end of the year. This, compounded by the fact that the Nexus 10 was one of the very first devices to run Android 4.2, has made some mobile users believe that Samsung will pull the same trick twice with the Nexus 11. However, Samsung has made no announcements about the existence of a new Nexus tablet, so readers should take rumors about the device with a grain of salt, and this applies to Android 5.0 rumors as well.
SamMobile has some of the alleged specs of the Nexus 11, which may have the first octa-core processor in a tablet. The report also claims that the Nexus 11 will have an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front camera, plus a 11" Super PLS TFT display. The report fails to mention any operating system for the Nexus 11, so that does not help the cause of those hoping that Samsung is able to secure Key Lime Pie to power the device.
It remains to be seen if the device will have these features if and when it comes out, or if the rumored specs turn out to be false. Some of the information, particularly about the octa-core processor, is interesting and would be a welcome addition to the Nexus line.
Other tablets mentioned include the Samsung Galaxy Tab 11, Samsung Galaxy Tab DUOS 7.0, and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.0.
Very little is known about Android 5.0 thus far, and while Google is definitely preparing the next generation of Android for future devices, considering that the company is still rolling out Android 4.2.2 to devices such as Sony's Xperia Tablet Z and have only rolled out Android 4.3 Jelly Bean to select devices, it is doubtful that the leap to 5.0 will happen anytime soon.
