Those who have the Xperia Tablet Z will get a new update for the device, bringing the tablet to Android 4.2.2. This update is for those who have the LTE version of the Sony tablet with model number SGP321. This news comes from the Xperia Blog, who notes that the Wi-Fi version of the Tablet Z has yet to receive the update, which indicates that those who own the Wi-Fi version of the device will have to wait awhile before they will get the update.

This update will bring a host of new features to the tablet.

One of the biggest and most noticeable updates is the change to the UI features. The tablet's notification bar is now on top of the device after the update, showing up in the center of the screen. This makes the notification bar more in line with the way Xperia smartphones and other devices have the feature, making the tablet much easier to transition to.

The soft buttons for the tablet have been centered on the screen, and pushed to the bottom of the tablet. The notification bar will have a quick setting feature added as part of the update as well. Other features added to the tablet through the Android 4.2.2 update include having the lock screen having a status bar which will be partially transparent, as well as the removal of the small app drawer.

Those who wish to download the update manually must do so by connecting their device to their PC with a Sony Companion/Bridge. Users are advised to have their Xperia Tablet Z at nearly full battery life, as major updates such as this will drain the device's battery quickly.

Xperia has been very active in bringing Google's Android updates to their devices recently, as they have brought updates now to the Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, and Xperia ZR.

The Xperia Tablet Z previously came with Android 4.1.2 when the tablet was released, and this is the first big update for the tablet's operating system. Sony has yet to comment on when the Wi-Fi version of the tablet will get this update, and it will be interesting to see how much time passes before the update becomes available. Sony has also yet to announce any plans to bring their Xperia line up to Android 4.3, the recently announced version of the popular operating system.
