The monster-fighting Winchester brothers will return for season nine of the CW's "Supernatural" with a new set of problems. This season will commence with the brothers dealing with the fallout from Metatron's deeds as they attempt to control Crowley, the sovereign of hell, and his minions. If that wasn't enough, they also have some personal issues to deal with.

According to TVLine, "Supernatural" star Jenson Ackles told reporters at Comic-Con that the brothers will have to band together now more than ever due to a weighty secret. "They've got angels, they've got demons and all the other stuff in between to now deal with," Ackles said. "They're really going to need each other more than ever at this point, and they're going to have to rely on each other more than ever, which is going to be difficult because there's a secret that Dean is harboring right now from Sam."

Co-star Jared Padalecki chimed in that the secret "heavily involves Sam." "It even has a lot to do with why Sam's still alive," Padalecki continued. "Dean is continuing to lie to Sam, and he's hating it every step of the way. But when Sam finds out, sh*t's going to hit the fan."

Season nine will also include an anticipated backdoor pilot for a series spinoff. WhatCulture! reports that episode 20 of season nine, which will be near the end of the season, will set up a story arc for a spinoff series that will include something a bit different: human/monster hybrids. Producer Jeremy Carver told Entertainment Weekly that they plan to have "main characters who are both human and monsters" to have both "families of monsters and families of hunters."

CW executive Mark Pedowitz said that the show will take place in Chicago and would be less "nomadic" than "Supernatural," which features the itinerant Winchester brothers chasing monsters from coast to coast. While "Supernatural" focuses on the complicated bond between two brothers, the new series will feature an ensemble cast of characters.

Pedowitz added that there are no current plans to have any of the "Supernatural" characters in the new spinoff. However, he did add that Padalecki and Ackles would be involved in the new series in some capacity.

The ninth season of "Supernatural" will return on Oct. 15 on the CW.
