While many fans of Fox's hit comedy, "The Mindy Project," were hoping Mindy Kaling's character would get together with Chris Messina's Danny Castellano, it seems like the writers have a different plan for Mindy. According to TV Guide, the show's leading lady may be getting hitched to her pastor beau Casey (Anders Holm).

When fans left the show's first season, Mindy and Casey were heading down for volunteer trip to Haiti despite Mindy hitting a rough patch with her new guy. Executive producer Matt Warburton told TV Guide, "It's the premiere, and Mindy comes back from Haiti with some big news. Basically in this one episode, we're trying to have a big move between Mindy and Casey."

Warburton elaborated, "We didn't want to start the season, 'Oh, we're back from Haiti and that [Casey] guy is gone.' In the first set of episodes, we're really playing through this relationship further and seeing where this goes."

News of the wedding will not only come as a surprise to everyone, but will also happen rather quickly, the EP said. "Everybody is sort of thrilled for her," Warburton added. "The nice thing is when we cast Anders, everyone loves that character so much, and the characters love him so much. In addition to being a good guy, he's a big weirdo. People are just happy for the two."

But what of Mindy's connection with Danny? Kaling confirmed to reporters that Mindy-Danny shippers need not worry. "Mindy gets to be single again pretty soon," Kaling said. Writer and co-star Ike Barinholtz added, "Sorry, Anders."

As previously reported, Barinholtz is very much in favor of getting Mindy together with Danny. In an interview with TVLine, Barinholtz said, "The whole year we were all deeply divided on whether or not [we should 'go there'] with Mindy and Danny. I wanted to see it. But some other writers said 'No, no, no! Don't do that. Wait.'"

By now, fans know that they did in fact wait. "Well, we waited. But there was still a nice moment at the end [of the finale] that shows there's something there between those two. Looking back, I'm glad that the [other writers] won because hopefully we'll be able to do the show for a while and then, if eventually if the show ends with Mindy and Danny living in a two-bedroom in The Village somewhere, it would be fantastic."

"The Mindy Project" season two premiers on Tuesday, September 17 at 9:30 p.m. on Fox.
