Samsung Galaxy S4 owners looking to choose between more Android operating systems could soon receive an HTC One exclusive: MoDaCo.Switch.
For those unaware, MoDaCo.Switch is a custom firmware from the MoDaCo team that allows HTC One users the option of choosing between booting up an HTC-inspired Android firmware or stock Google AOSP. The firmware, despite only going beta recently and still having some bugs to iron out, has garnered tons of positive reception, and a new fundraising campaign is hoping to bring it over to the Samsung Galaxy S4.
A Kickstarter-style fundraiser on Indiegogo is asking for £1,000 in donations by Aug. 16 to help get the Galaxy S4 MoDaCo.Switch off the ground. As of 4:30 p.m. EST, £879 has been donated, and there's little doubt that the remaining £111 will roll in over the next two weeks. In other words, it looks like it's going to happen. The fundraiser, at this point in time, is specifically for the Galaxy S4 model GT-I9505.
MoDacO.Switch isn't exactly kosher — custom ROMS and firmwares void warranties and mean the user is on their own — but it offers users a chance to not feel left behind Google, which typically plows ahead by one or two versions of Android compared to the rest of the pack. The firmware is fairly straightforward, and simply asks the user whether they would like to boot Android version X or Android version Y (in the Galaxy S4's case, it would be Android 4.2.2 with TouchWiz or stock Android 4.3).
