Summer is an untamed beast. The sweltering weather and relentless sun make the long days drag on. Sure, at first, it comes as a blessing. It warms our bones and allows us to shake away the winter cobwebs. But as we enter the thick of it, we realize how a cool breeze and a light dusting of frost on the morning grass helps to lift us through our days. What the summer lacks most is winter television. Although it caters to several strong, entertaining series, the big guns remain dormant. The winter hosts the best television. It's a time to bundle up on your couch next to a raging fire. What could be better? Fortunately, during these long months without your favorite television shows to help you get through the work week, there are plenty of behind-the-scene details that help to scratch the itch.
For fans of the 17 Primetime Emmy nominated series "American Horror Story," more character details continue to shed light on the upcoming third season. According to TVLine, Denis O'Hare, who earned an Emmy nod for his role in season 1, is returning for the third season, titled "Coven." Creator Ryan Murphy announced the casting news via Twitter, but kept the details on O'Hare's role a secret.
"Very pleased to announce that the Emmy nominated Denis O'Hare is joining AHS: Coven." That's it. Nothing more and nothing less. O'Hare will beef up the season's male presence, which pales in comparison to the female dominated cast.
"American Horror Story" is also still searching for the actor to play Dr. David Zhong. One of the audition tapes, featuring Byron Mann from "Arrow," leaked online last month, however, has since been taken down. Dr. Zhong is described as a charming Asian doctor, and the audition tape revealed that he's working on a youth serum. It's unclear what role the serum will play in the upcoming season, but fans will find out soon enough.
In the tape, Dr. Zhong claims that the serum needs another two years before it's ready, despite a yearning character named Maude who demands to take it immediately. There are plenty of directions "Coven" could go here, but it appears as though an immature youth serum could cause detrimental side effects that could drive the show forward.
"American Horror Story" returns to FX Network October 9.
