Those hoping to see Gareth Bale make a move to Real Madrid or Manchester United will be frustrated by the latest developments in the transfer saga.

According to ESPN, the Welsh star is set to sign a contract extension with his current club Tottenham Hotspur.

"There were contacts last year between the club and his agent," Tottenham coach Andre Villas-Boas told the media. "And there are still ongoing contacts between club and agent...The player renewed his contract last year by the beginning of the season, if you remember, and it's something that is being dealt with by the chairman and with the agent."

Villas-Boas noted that "talks are ongoing, but that doesn't mean there is an agreement," but asserted he was confident about reaching an agreement.

"At the moment, we are confident. The player is under contract, a good contract at Tottenham," he said. "It's something we are speaking about, but we don't have any further developments."

The statements are in line with other comments previously made by Villas-Boas. The manager has repeatedly stated that his superstar is not for sale.

"On Gareth, I want to repeat what I was telling you last season and what I was telling you from the beginning of pre-season so I cannot extend myself," the Spurs boss said from Hong Kong a few days ago. "He's a player that we are willing to continue to have, he's a Tottenham player, he's one of the most fantastic players in the world at the moment and we are counting on him for the future.

"He is not for sale at any price, and there has been no offer from anyone."
