The Best Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or a Movie category features five veteran actresses. Two of the women nominated have already won an Emmy, while two of the actresses are receiving their first nomination. With no clear front runner the award looks like it could go to any of the thespians.
Sarah Paulson ("American Horror Story: Asylum"): Paulson is receiving her second nomination at the Emmys for her work as Lana Winters. She was previously shortlisted for her turn in "Game Change. " Paulson's performance recently received a nomination for the Academy of Science Fiction Fantasy and Horror. The actress was last seen in "Mud" and will next star alongside Michael Fassbender and Chiwetel Ejiofor in "12 Years a Slave"
Ellen Burnstyn ("Political Animals"): Burnstyn is receiving her sixth nomination for her performance as Margaret Barrish Worthington. She previously won an Emmy for her work in "Law and Order: Special Victims Unit" and was nominated for "Mrs. Harris," "Big Love," "People vs. Jean Harris" and "Park of Lies Hallmark Hall of Fame." Burnstyn is best known for her work on "The Excorcist," "The Last Picture Show" and "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore" for which she won an Oscar. The veteran actress will next be seen in "Enemy Way" and Christopher Nolan's new film "Interstellar."
Charlotte Rampling ("Restless"): Rampling received her first nomination for an Emmy for her work as Sally Gillmartin in "Restless." The actress was previously recognized for her performance at the Screen Actors Guild Awards but lost to Julianne Moore's performance as Sarah Palin in "Game Change." Rampling was recently seen in "Melancholia," "The Duchess," and "Night Train to Lisbon".
Alfre Woodward ("Steel Magnolias"): Woodward garnered her 17th Emmy nomination for her work as Ousier. She has already been the recipient of four Emmys for her work on "Miss Evers' Boy," "The Practice," "L.A. Law" and "Hill Street Blues." Woodward has already received various awards for her performance in the TV movie including a Black Reel, and Image awards and a SAG nomination. She will next be seen in "12 Years a Slave" with fellow nominee Paulson.
Imelda Staunton ("The Girl"): Staunton obtained her first nomination for her performance as Alma Reville Hitchcock. The veteran actress previously received nominations for her work in the TV movie at the British Academy Awards for TV. The British star appeared in the "Harry Potter" franchise and will next appear in "Maleficent" and "The Curse of the Buxom Strumpet."
Prediction: Sarah Paulson could potentially pick up her Emmy especially after the success of the miniseries.
