With the new Lumia device set to go on sale in a couple days via exclusive carrier AT&T, the reviews have started to flow in.

"Reviewing Nokia phones hasn't been easy over the past two years. It's not that the company's phones were bad or overly complex in some way, it's just that we have been hoping for so much more than Nokia has been able to deliver," introduced Zach Epstein of BGR on his review for the Lumia 1020.

Epstein commented on what is definitely the selling point for the Lumia 1020, the camera specifications. He referred to the camera as "astounding."

He added, "Handsets like the iPhone 5, Galaxy S4 and others might churn out photos with higher megapixel counts than the Lumia 1020, but Nokia's new smartphone camera is a different breed entirely. In fact, I have yet to find a scenario where images captured by the Lumia 1020 aren't substantially better than photos taken with Apple's 8-megapixel iPhone 5 camera or Samsung's 13-megapixel Galaxy S4 camera."

As for Gareth Beavis of TechRadar noted, "There's the obvious elephant in the room: it's still running Windows Phone 8, which many will see as a negative, thanks to a lack of apps and power compared to its counterparts."

Beavis, however, the Lumia 1020 is a move in the right direction for Nokia.

"We really, really like the Lumia 1020 as a device," he added. "Yes, it's more camera than phone, but the balance is a lot more even than before, and it will really appeal to all of those who want to make sure they get the best out of their everyday memories."

The folks at CNET gave the Lumia 1020 a 8.3 overall score out of 10. In regards to the "good" about the new Windows Phone 8 smartphone, it also highlighted the camera's high-resolution images and "puts creative control at your fingertips."

The "bad," however, is "A niche device, the Lumia 1020 is $100 pricier than most high-end smartphones. The lens makes it a little bulky. Multiple camera apps are confusing. It lacks manual f-stop control and presets for common shooting scenarios."

Overall, CNET stated that casual mobile users should maintain with their current device but avid mobile photographers will "love" the Lumia 1020.

"We were impressed by how smoothly the camera was able to handle jostling, shaky hands and a little panning," reviewed Engadget's Brad Molen on the Lumia 1020's video recording. "While phones with 1080p video capture are a dime a dozen in this industry, very few actually do a good job of making you feel like you're actually watching a high-def video; fortunately, the 1020 is one of those few.

According to Molen, the Lumia 1020 is the best Windows Phone device currently in the market.

PC Mag stated the Lumia 1020 has the best camera on a smartphone and an "easy-to-use" operating system. However, there were notable negatives about the device. PC Mag noted the Lumia 1020 is "big," "expensive," and is slow when making photography shots.

"The Nokia Lumia 1020 is the best camera phone on Earth," wrote PC Mag's Jim Fisher and Sascha Segan.

The PC Mag review added that the Lumia 1020 takes better pictures compared to the iPhone, but once again noted the lack of speed in the Nokia device.

The Lumia 1020 is priced at $299 when signing a two-year contract with AT&T and is expected to go on sale July 26.
