Google finally took the wraps off its next Nexus tablet, the 2013 Nexus 7, at a "Breakfast with Sundar Pichai" event Wednesday - here's what the refresh is all about.
The new Nexus 7 starts off at a higher price point, costing $229 for the 16GB Wi-Fi-only model and $269 for the Wi-Fi-only 32GB variant. Buyers can pick up the a 32GB 4G LTE for $349. Interested parties can head over to Google Play store to pre-order the tablet, which will become available July 30.
The Nexus 7's pricing makes it slightly more expensive than the original Nexus 7, which started at $199, however, budget-minded consumers would do well to pay attention to the tablet, as it comes it some powerful specs.
The tablet features an upgraded 7-inch display 1920X1200 display pushing out 323 pixels per inch. Underneath the hood, the Nexus 7 tablet packs a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, 2GB RAM, a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera, and a 1.2-megapixel camera. The Nexus 7 will come with NFC capabilities and Android 4.3 will be pre-installed on the tablet.
In other Google news, the Mountain View-based search giant also revealed Android 4.3 for the first time Wednesday. The new operating system will feature Bluetooth Smart support as well as some nifty new tools for video streaming and game developers. Tablet users also now have more parental controls available in regards to the multiple user profile system introduced in Android 4.2, and the update will hit the Nexus 4, original Nexus 7, and Nexus 10 first before landing on Google Play editions of the Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One.
