Arsenal forward Olivier Giroud wants Uruguayan Luis Suarez to join his team next season.

"Luis Suarez is someone with whom I could form a good understanding on the pitch," he said, according to the Sun. "So I am in favor of him coming to Arsenal and I am not afraid of the competition for places his arrival would bring about. "

ESPN reports: "The striker's agent, Pere Guardiola, claims an offer of £40 million would trigger Suarez's release clause, although [Suarez's current club Liverpool] are believed to have a different interpretation of his contract."

A few weeks ago, Arsenal offered Liverpool 30 million pounds for the striker's services, but was promptly rejected.

Suarez has noted an interest in moving away from his current team after a poor relationship with the press.

"I'm happy at Liverpool. I'm happy because of the fans. I made a mistake, I'm human, but they've talked about me in ways they shouldn't have. My family has suffered and things got out of hand. My daughter and my wife have suffered. I'm not prepared to continue to put up with the English press," he noted. "I love Liverpool, but if there is a chance of playing somewhere else... I suffered too much as a kid to get where I am to be attacked unfairly by the English press. They haven't appreciated me as a player, they've just judged my attitude."

Suarez is coming off a controversial season in which he was suspended for biting Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic during a match back in April. He scored 23 goals in 33 matches this season.
