Battlefield 4 has been one of the most impressive current and next-gen games that has been shown off during the summer, as the game had an impressive showing during E3 for both the single player and multiplayer portions of the game. Now, developer DICE has revealed information about what players can expect from the game's story and the character that players will control in the game.

The game centers on the Tombstone squad, which includes the game's playable character, Sergeant Daniel Recker. Despite being an elite group of commandos, DICE still describes the squad as "unlikely heroes," which has me wondering, who, besides the highly trained squad of soldiers, were people hoping the heroes would be?Gamespot is reporting that the game will have a global scope for missions, including chapters taking place in Azerbaijan, Shanghai, and Singapore. So far, DICE has explained the Singapore mission in greatest detail.

In Singapore, players must rescue VIPs from a hostile area, including Laszlo W. Kovic, who is the focus of the upcoming Battlefield tie-in novel. Once players get back to the ship that serves as a base of operations for the mission, players discover that the fleet is under attack and the sinking ship level seen in the E3 demo is then started. As the game's decsiption reads:

"As you reach Singapore you are shocked to find a horrific scene of fire and mayhem. The flagship is sunk and its fleet is eradicated, and from this point on nothing is certain."

What is interesting is that DICE has chosen to first reveal more details about the multiplayer portion of Battlefield 4, where their biggest competitor, Infinity Ward's Call of Duty: Ghosts, decided to focus the most on the single player campaign and has yet to address the game's multiplayer elements in detail. Though it makes since that Infinity Ward would focus on the campaign, due to the story being penned by an Oscar-winning screenwriter. Call of Duty: Ghosts multiplayer will be revealed sometime in August.

Battlefield 4 will be available in Oct. 29 on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC, and will eventually come to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The Xbox One version of the game will feature exclusive Kinect controls, though DICE has yet to elaborate on what they will be.

Look out for more Battlefield 4 news as the game gets closer to the October release date and the next-gen consoles get closer to being launched.
