The Netflix Watch Instantly model is changing the way we watch television. It's genius really. Why would people want to wait, week after week, to watch their favorite show in a specific allotted timeslot that may not even cater to their schedule? With the Netflix platform, they can watch as they please. If they want to space it out in order to maintain the suspense, they can. If they want to watch the entire season in one binge sitting, they can. Arguably the network's breakthrough series is now gearing up for its return, preparing fans for yet another riveting season of the politically charged drama, "House of Cards."
The series recently received nine nominations at the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, including the nominations for best Drama Series and Lead Actor in a Drama. To fans this comes as little surprise, as they know the caliber of the show. Lead actor Kevin Spacey on the other hand, was overwhelmed by the recognition.
"It's such a big acknowledgement. We are in many ways the new kids on the block, and to have broken through, it has been really satisfying," Spacey told Entertainment Weekly yesterday. "The Academy is more modern than anyone suspected."
Spacey also commented on Netflix's new television viewing platform. He praised the network's innovation and predicted that is will change the course of television forever.
"It's a very exciting time for the industry," he said. "Since we debuted, a lot of other organizations and streaming companies have announced that they're doing original content. The more shows that are produced, the more writers are hired, producers are hired, actors are hired, directors are hired, it means the more people will get employed. It's better for the economy. It's a fantastic thing."
The second season of "House of Cards" is expected to hit Netflix in early 2014.
