Summer is already on its way out. We may be engulfed in the peak of the summer heat, however, the season has passed its unofficial halfway point. Fall is right around the corner, which means winter is to follow. Fall serves as a precursor to the bitter winter months. But although you could say that winter is coming, it will still be sometime before Winter arrives.

"Game of Thrones" is currently in its long and tormenting offseason. Fans will have to suffer through their own winter before the impending Winter is back on course. In the meantime, news from the early stages of production on season 4 will help ail the woes of the "Game of Thrones" hiatus.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Mark Gatiss will mark the newest addition to the growing "Game of Thrones" cast. Gatiss has written "Doctor Who" novels and episodes of the BBC cult classic, as well as acted in the series. But his impressive resume doesn't stop there. He's the co-creator and co-star of "Sherlock," another British-based hit series, on which he plays Holmes' brother Mycroft.

As for his role on "Game of Thrones," producers have kept the details surrounding his role a secret. Perhaps more will be revealed this week during the show's panel at Comic-Con.

In addition to bringing more actors into the already jam packed cast, the show has nailed down its directors for each episode. Neil Marshall, who directed season 2's epic "Battle of the Blackwater" episode is one name that stands out from the many signed on to work on season 4. "The West Wing" Emmy-winner Alex Graves will hop onboard for four episodes, while showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss will take on one of their own. Here's the rundown of directors by episode:

Episode 1: Benioff and Weiss

Episodes 2, 3, 8, 10: Alex Graves

Episode 4, 5: Michelle MacLaren

Episodes 6, 7: Alik Sakharov

Episode 9: Neil Marshall

Benioff and Weiss will write the majority of episodes, per usual. Author George R. R. Martin will contribute one episode while co-producer Bryan Cogman will take on two.

Stayed tuned for more details on season 4 to come during this week's Comic-Con.
