DICE's Battlefield series has been a monstrous hit for the company. Battlefield 3 continues to be a popular title for gamers to spend hour-upon-hour battling it out with friends or strangers across the country, and Battlefield 4 is one of the most heavily hyped games coming out for next-gen consoles when they are eventually launched. On Wednesday, some interesting facts came out about the series, including the discovery of a hidden Battlefield 3 easter egg and the announcement of a novel tied into the fourth game of the series.

Battlefield 3 has been out for a couple years now, and gamers have managed to discover all the easter eggs in the game ... or so they thought. A voice-over actor for the game revealed back in April that there was still one easter egg to find in the game, however, they did not mention where and how to get it, and left only a few cryptic hints on how to spot it. Well, now the easter egg has been found, and video of the easter egg can be seen below. It is an audio easter egg, which when activated will have the game yell out a warning about a "Goldfarb" in the area. This is a reference to David Goldfarb, a designer for both Battlefield 3 and Bad Company 2 who now works for a different studio. The easter egg was so hard to activate that, in order to find out what it was, the creator of the video had to download all of the audio files for the game and sort through them to try and find suspicious audio files that would match the hints. This proved much easier than trying to trigger the easter egg within the game, and thus the last Battlefield 3 mystery has been solved.

Meanwhile, Gamespot has announced that a novel for Battlefield 4 is in the works, and will tell the story of the squad that is the focus of the game's single player campaign. The novel will be written by Peter Grimsdale, who co-authored "Battlefield 3: The Russian," and will focus on a CIA operative named Kovic.

It will be interesting to see if we see more hidden easter eggs and literature that stems from the series as we get closer to Battlefield 4's release. Battlefield 4 will feature exclusive Kinect controls for the Xbox One version of the game and has the first two DLC packs for the game announced already despite being months away from release.
