Summer has passed its unofficial halfway point. It's the later half of July. Soon enough the autumn breeze will gently descend from the skies, cooling the late August evenings and reminding us of the impending winter. While it will be nice to take a break from the unrelenting heat, the thought of the long winter ahead can be daunting. Luckily, with the arrival of fall comes the best of television. By the time blankets of snow cover our backyards and city streets, we'll be nestled under blankets of our own, cozy on the couch, watching our favorite series.

One series in particular is coming back for its final and most anticipated season yet. "How I Met Your Mother" will finally, after eight uproarious seasons, introduce the coveted Mother and tie up all its loose ends. It will take place over Barney and Robin's long wedding weekend and promises to be chock full of heartfelt memories and wild and zany antics that have made the show so spectacular. Not only will the core gang return along with the Mother, but other characters will also grace the final season.

According to TV Line, Ellie Kemper from "The Office" is joining the cast of "How I Met Your Mother" for season 9. Kemper will play Cassie, "one of the most attractive, available, and - as Ted discovers- unfortunate guests at Barney and Robin's wedding," said series co-creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas. Kemper is only set to appear in one episode, but as production rolls out, anything is possible.

As for the premiere, Sherri Shepherd will appear in the hour-long episode during an altercation with Marshall. The talk show co-host/actress posted a photo on her Twitter indicating that she will appear in the first episode in scenes with Jason Segel, who plays Marshall.

"How I Met Your Mother" will return to CBS September 23 at 8 p.m.
