Diablo 3 is already out on the PC, and is heading to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on Sept. 3, but fans have been wondering when the PlayStation 4 version of the game will eventually appear, and if it would be available as a launch title for the next-gen system. However, it looks as though developer Blizzard will not be able to bring the game to the PlayStation 4 launch window, so gamers should realistically expect the game sometime in 2014.

Blizzard revealed the news in an interview with Diablo Fans, and blamed the delay on Sony, claiming the team had only just received a development kit for the next-gen system, so they could not work on the game until recently:

"The Diablo 3 team has actually just received the new PS4 development kits so the translation for that platform is yet to be done. They really like the features on the PS4 controller and want to try and do something cool with the trackpad and share button. Diablo 3 will not be a launch date title for the PS4. It will come in 2014. The developers prefer to try and get the most out of the different features that platforms have, instead of just porting the game to each of them."

But this was not the only news about the game that was revealed during the interview. Developers also confirmed that the game will not be coming to portable devices such as the PlayStation Vita.

Blizzard also discussed game expansions in the interview. With the game coming to many different platforms, with several different release dates, Blizzard addressed concerns about how expansions to the game will be released, and revealed its strategy for updating the game:

"When an expansion comes the main concern will not be to ship it simultaneously on all platforms, but instead try to make the expansion features as relevant to each platform as possible."

Diablo 3 has been quite a hit for Blizzard on the PC, and the console ports of the game are ready to continue that success. Besides the question of when the PlayStation 4 will come out, another big question is if an Xbox One version of the game will be announced as well. Considering the game is coming to the Xbox 360, the possibility is there, but so far Blizzard has remained quiet on the issue.
