As the trade deadline approaches, the Chicago Cubs have reportedly informed Matt Garza that he will likely be traded, and Philadelphia Phillies hurler Cliff Lee hasn't ruled out the possibility of being thrown onto the trading block as well.
SB Nation reported on Tuesday the Cubs have already informed Garza that he will likely be traded before the trade deadline, after contract negotiations reportedly collapsed.
The Texas Rangers, Boston Red Sox, St. Louis Cardinals and the Cleveland Indians are the frontrunners to pick up the right handed pitcher.
Garza, 29, emerged as the hottest available hurler on the market after going 6-1 with a 3.17 ERA and 62 strikeouts with the Cubs this season.
Meanwhile, former Cy Young Winner Cliff Lee admitted that he could be traded anytime, although he feels it won't happen this season.
Lee, selected to his fourth All-Star appearance after going 10-3 with a 2.86 ERA and 125 strikeouts, said he doesn't like playing the "what-if" game.
"I could be traded. There's a bunch of guys in this room that could be traded," Lee said at Citi Field, according to Massachusetts Live. "You can what-if all kinds of things. To me it does no benefit, playing it out in my head, or, what if I was traded to the Giants? Or what if I was traded to the Cardinals, or what if I was traded to the Yankees? Or whatever. It's all what-ifs.
The Red Sox have been eyeing Lee for a long time, making them the likely leading buyer if the hurler becomes available.
