Puerto Rican singer Elvis Crespo has admitted to having a serious problem with alcohol and has checked himself into rehab. According to Perez Hilton, his revelation comes after a public display of intoxication at a Puerto Rican restaurant last week.

The incident took place in San Juan de Isla Verde around 3 a.m. last Monday. Crespo allegedly refused to pay the bill and when restaurant manager Aelxander De Jesús came on to him, the inebriated singer attempted to kiss him. In response, De Jesús beat him up, the Huffington Post reported.

According to "El Circo de la Mega" radio show, the artist ended up defecating in his pants. After several medical exams and days of silence, Crespo addressed reporters as he left the Doctor Leonardo Valentín Tirado hospital on Thursday night, the Puerto Rican daily El Nuevo Día reported. He said he felt ashamed of what had happened and revealed he had an alcohol relapse.

"I recognize I have an alcohol issue, I gotta work on it. I am already doing rehab privately, trying to move on. I would like to be able to rewind certain things, but these things happen... God has a purpose for this and I'll do whatever it takes to continue with my life. Life is made up of this kind of things," the artist said. Crespo was kept company by his sister Liliana Crespo and a friend, who identified herself as Yamilette.

"What happened on Monday morning was definitely shameful and regrettable. I was wrong, and I apologize to my family and my fans," he added. Crespo's wife, Maribel Vega, was not in Puerto Rico with her husband during the incident. The two are reportedly going through a marriage crisis.

According to the Huffington Post, this is not the first time that Elvis admits to having problems with alcohol and addictions. Eight years ago, he confessed to TVnotas USA magazine that his abuse of alcohol and sex made him lose his family and his whole fortune, and that he ended up living in his father and stepmother's attic in New York home. This experience led him to become aware of his addictions, the star said at the time.
