'The Avengers 3' News Update: Could Joseph Gordon-Levitt Be 'Doctor Strange'?

With Comic-Con right around the corner, rumors regarding Marvel's Doctor Strange have emerged.

According to Latino Review, Joseph Gordon is rumored to play "Doctor Strange" in the upcoming Marvel film. According to the news source Marvel executives are discussing the probability of the film and have Gordon-Levitt as their first choice if the movie moves forward. They stated, "Now at press time, we are not saying that an offer has been made, that talks have even engaged and who knows, Levitt and his team are probably unaware, BUT we are hearing that Marvel execs internally are discussing that Levitt is who they figure would be ideal."

The "Doctor Strange" movie has been in development for three years and it was recently announced that Marvel was planning three films for 2016. Many have already speculated that one of the three movies will be "Doctor Strange" and that if the film is to happen, more news will be revealed at Comic-Con. Previously, Justin Theoreux was linked to the film but the actor failed to comment on the rumors.   

Marvel began its first Avengers phase in 2008 when "The Incredible Hulk," and "Iron Man" were released. The company continued with 2010's "Iron Man 2" and followed up with "Thor" and "Captain America." In 2012 "The Avengers" was released and became the highest opening of all time.

The studio is currently working on phase two films leading up to "The Avengers 2."The studio recently released "Iron Man 3" and is slated to unveil "Thor: The Dark World" in November. "Captain American: The Winter Soldier" and "Guardians of Galaxy" will then be released in 2014 and in 2015. "The Avengers 2" and "Ant-Man" are also scheduled.
