ABC Family's "The Fosters" has quickly gained a dedicated following just a couple episodes into its first season. As fans prepare for the season's seventh episode, entitled "The Fallout," the show's lead Maia Mitchell sat down with TVLine to dish about her character Callie and what's to come in the series.

In the upcoming episode, Callie will be forced to lean on her foster family as the ever mysterious Liam (Brandon Jones) once again makes an appearance in her life. She'll also have to lean on new boyfriend Wyatt (Alex Saxon) for support. Many were left wondering just what happened to Callie and Liam in the past to cause her so much anxiety when he appeared in Wyatt's party last week.

Mitchell dished, "She's just been in survival mode. Everything she does is a survival mechanism. She gets through each day and can only deal with so much. She's a young girl. Without the support of family and friends, she really had to deal with all her misfortunes completely on her own."

"So Liam really forces her to face some big things that she hasn't worked through and hasn't really processed properly," Mitchell told TVLine. She added that her character's issue with Liam is "something that is quite huge and definitely" that will give fans an insight into why Callie is the way she is.

The Australian actress also shed some light into her character's relationship with foster brother Brandon (David Lambert), with whom she's gotten very close to. "What's really amazing about Callie and Brandon's relationship is the unspoken connection and trust. She really does feel safe around Brandon, whether it's romantically or just in terms of friends and being there for her."

She added that she doesn't foresee their romance developing in the near future. Brandon confessed his feelings for Callie early in her and Wyatt's relationship, but was immediately turned down. "Even if there were any feelings on Callie's end, she's not even able to face them because the risk of Jude not being in the foster house anymore is just too great," she told TVLine. However, Callie fans shouldn't be too disappointed. The troubled teen has recently developed a relationship with fellow outsider Wyatt, which has blossomed in the last couple of episodes.

You can tune into "The Foster" S1E7 "The Fallout" tonight at 9 p.m. on ABC Family.
