Puerto Rican singer Elvis Crespo has admitted to an alcohol problem after he was rushed to the Leonardo Valentin Tirado hospital in Guaynabo Puerto Rico on Thursday night.

According to El Nuevo Dia, the singer publicly admitted his alcohol related issues in a statement to the press, "I recognize that I have a severe problem with alcohol, and I have to work hard to get better. I am already undergoing rehabilitation so I can move on with my life."

The statements were made by Crespo as he left the hospital, where he was placed under observation for several hours. The singer's publicist Helga Garcia said that his admission to the hospital was directly related to his alcohol problem, according to the newspaper.

The singer apologized to family and fans alike for his behavior and said he "would like to rewind time and take back the things that happened." Crespo has been subjected to public scrutiny in the last few days after several media outlets reported that he was involved in an altercation with a restaurant manager.

It was reported that on Tuesday morning Crespo entered a restaurant called Made In Puerto Rico to use the bathroom. According to the owner, the singer allegedly tried to leave with a bottle of liquor he hadn't paid for. When confronted by the manager, Crespo insulted him and then hit the manager in the face, giving him a bloody nose.

Crespo continued fighting and ended up in the ground, but fled the scene before management was able to call the police. It has also been reported that earlier in the night, the merengue star was thrown out of the San Juan Hotel, also located in Isla Verde, because he allegedly engaged in improper behavior directed towards an employee of the casino.
