HTC Droid DNA Update Release Date: Could Android 4.2.2 Land Soon with Sense 5?

HTC Droid DNA owners in the United States could be receiving Android 4.2.2 incredibly soon as the manufacturer is aggressively ramping up its updates.

The HTC Droid DNA's international counterpart, the HTC Butterfly, just began getting its Android 4.2.2 update today in China, meaning that HTC has indeed completed the hard part of porting stock Android over to their specific handset. What's more, the upgrade includes a new version of HTC's Sense user interface with Blinkfeed and video highlights. HTC previously stated that it would keep some elements of Sense exclusive to the HTC One, but in a move that's good news for all other HTC smartphones, the popular Blinkfeed isn't one of those features.

Seeing as how the Droid DNA is basically the same phone except on Verizon's wireless network, it shouldn't be long before HTC brings it over to the States, especially given its current situation.

HTC is in the hot seat as the company has failed to turn its miserable fortunes around. Once the cream of the Android market, HTC has lost a large portion of its market share and its recent quarter earnings falling well short of expectations. With its flagship phone is struggling to keep pace with rival Samsung's Galaxy S4 and customer enthusiasm waning, HTC is going to look for any way to keep consumers loyal to the brand — one of those ways is to provide timely updates, which the company claims it will do with high profile handsets like the HTC One X, and presumably, the HTC Droid DNA.

Sadly, HTC's efforts could hit a roadblock, as Verizon is known for its lackluster performance when it comes to delivering updates. Verizon is often months behind other carriers for one reason or another, so we'll have to wait and see whether HTC's back-against-the-wall stance can overpower Verizon's lazy, content status as the nation's largest wireless service provider.
